Operational Technology (OT) Lead
Contract and Work Details:
-
Contract Duration: 6 months to start, with strong likelihood of extension

FTE Conversion: Full-time conversion possibility, contingent on performance and organizational needs

Work Arrangement: Fully remote; located anywhere in Canada, as long as they can work in EST/EDT
-
Seniority: Ideally a minimum of 2-3 years with IoT technology, and 1 year of cybersecurity exp.
ABOUT THE ROLE:
Responsible for overseeing and securing various systems, including but not limited to the following areas:
-
HVAC Systems: Managing the security of Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning systems critical for property climate control.

Elevators: Ensuring the security of systems controlling corporate elevator infrastructure.
-
Bathroom Monitoring Systems: Overseeing security measures for technology involved in monitoring bathroom traffic, enhancing operational efficiency.
-
CCTV Cameras: Managing the security of Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) systems deployed within malls for surveillance.
Operational Technology (OT) Scope:
Encompasses a broad range of devices integral to property management and development. Includes systems with embedded technology or computer components, such as:

Internet of Things (IoT) Devices: Devices with internet connectivity, like internet-connected refrigerators, cameras, and sensors.

Digital Signage & Lighting: Managing the security of systems transmitting signals to display content on digital signages within malls.
KEY REQUIREMENTS
Operational Technology (OT) Risk Analyst should know:
-
BACnet – stands for Building Automation and Control Networks. It is a communication protocol standard designed specifically to provide a way to integrate building control products made by different manufacturers.

BAS – building automation systems – allows an operator to access, control, and monitor all connected building systems from a single interface. With BAS technology, you can gain centralized control over your building’s systems via networked electronic devices.
Importance of OT Security:
-
Emphasis on the importance of securing OT systems, especially within a property management company. Highlighting the increasing risk of third-party breaches and the necessity to protect sensitive internal data.

The potential of risk for security and data breaches within the systems of vendors they work with for monitoring, surveillance, etc, ultimately affects them as it opens them up to an internal breach.
Enforcement of Cybersecurity Standards:
-
Ensuring adherence to cybersecurity standards and specific protocols, such as TLS 1.2.
-
Balancing industry-specific standards for OT with general cybersecurity best practices.
Collaboration with IoT and Cybersecurity Certifications:
Certifications on the cybersecurity side are definitely relevant and preferred. Some of these can include:

CISSP (Certified Information Systems Security Professional): A globally recognized certification in the field of information security.

CISA (Certified Information Systems Auditor): Focused on information systems audit control and security.
-
CRISC (Certified in Risk and Information Systems Control): Concentrates on risk management and control monitoring.

ISO Lead Auditor Certification: Additionally proficiency in the ISO Lead Auditor Certification is valued, relating to the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) standards and indicating expertise in leading audits based on these standards.
TOP REQUIREMENTS
- Strong knowledge of BACnet and BAS
- OT (Operational Technology) Risk experience
- Cyber Security Risk Assessment/Audit experience
- Business Automation Systems experience
- Someone with a strong work ethic, a go-getter who enjoys a challenge, driven, passionate and able to contribute significant value to this team
