DevOps Engineer (GitOps Specialist) – FTE

  • Location:  Hybrid role in Toronto or Barrie, with 2 days a week in the office required

  • Type: Full-time Permanent

  • Start: March 2024

Additional Requirements:

  • Experience in Control Room operations and technical knowledge of operating tools.
  • Knowledge of corporate policies and security practices for secure system development.
  • Experience in assessing, implementing, and testing cybersecurity controls.
  • Familiarity with GitLab, Kubernetes, and Microsoft Azure Dev-Test environment.
  • Experience with Jenkins or Kubernetes for Containerization and Orchestration.
  • Knowledge of HA/DR application/database technologies.
  • Experience with PowerShell scripting and Desired State Configuration.
  • Familiarity with automated testing tools.
  • Understanding of ITIL framework, particularly Service Transition and Service Operation phases.
  • Strong customer service orientation and effective after-hours on-call support.
  • 4-year university degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent.
  • Over 8 years of experience in real-time operating applications in a large-scale transmission or distribution operating center.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide efficient technical support for control room operating tools, including NOMS, CRIS, and PSDB applications.
  • Offer after-hours on-call support for the Ontario Grid Control Centre and Integrated System Operating Centre.
  • Utilize version control tools, containerization, and orchestration technology to develop resilient, high-availability implementations and upgrades.
  • Ensure compliance with NERC CIP requirements, Security Systems Management, and Configuration Change Management procedures.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain OT Operations applications, Oracle systems, and SQL Server/PostgreSQL databases.
  • Monitor and maintain Tx/Dx operating tools’ performance, stability, and security using ITSM platform and Microsoft Power Platform.
  • Manage software patch notifications, conduct regular patch assessments, and apply maintenance patches.
  • Create and maintain configuration items in the OT Operations CMDB.
  • Ensure systems operate in accordance with established security practices.
  • Coordinate software changes, upgrades, user testing, and training.
  • Develop and document disaster recovery plans for core operating platforms.

Additional Details:

  • Currently involved in an on-prem to cloud migration project.
  • Focus on modernizing existing platforms within a team knowledgeable about the current platform.
  • Involvement in an on-call rotation, requiring availability once a month for a week, working with 3-4 team members.
  • On-call pairing with experienced personnel, considering the criticality of running the grid across Ontario.
